Southern Tier West has been given the opportunity to serve GIS to local governments via the Internet. In 2000, the Community GIS Project began through a grant from ARC. Selected communities created new data or gave existing data to Southern Tier West, which was put into a GIS format that can be seen in a viewer. From this the communities are able to do numerous operations with their data, each according to their own needs.
